Default Firmware update for Kyocera KR1 EVDO Mobile Router

New firmware has been released allows the Kyocera KR1 EVDO Mobile Router to work with more of the latest EVDO Rev A Cards.

Firmware RK1010 adds support for:
• Sprint Ovation U720
• Sprint PX-500
• Verizon USB720
• Kyocera KPC680 (Rev A ExpressCard with adapter – Not Yet Released).

By fully supporting the EVDO USB modems from Verizon & Sprint it offers an ideal solution. Not only do you get instant portable hotspot, but when you don’t need the router, just unplug the Sprint Ovation U720 and use in any desktop, laptop, Mac or Windows.

Download the new RK1010 firmware update here

The Kr1 works with just about any EVDO Card. It has been tested with Verizon's Kyocera KPC650, Novatel V620, Sierra AirCard 580, PC5220 (Kyocera doesn't support the PC5220) and PC5740 without the new firmware. Sprint's Mobile Broadband Cards: Merlins S620 and s720, AirCard 580, PC-5740 also work without any issues.

The Sierra AirCard 595 PCMCIA for Verizon & Sprint is not supported and does not work in KR1. Using an ExpressCard (V640, V740, EX720) with an ExpressCard Adapter does NOT work in KR1 with RK1010 firmware. The ExpressCards do work with older firmware RK1008 but with limited speeds. So, if you are using a Novatel ExpressCard with adapter, DO NOT INSTALL RK1010

None of the EVDO Routers currently available accommodate Express cards. The adapters that were released so you could use an express card in a PCMCIA slot have also failed.

Thank you,

The 595U is not fully compatible with ANY EVDO Router. It does not work with the Kyocera KR1 (the Novatel USB720 does). The 595U works with the MB6800, but it requires an external powered USB hub, otherwise the battery dies after 90 minutes and you cannot use your modem until you charge it in a laptop.

Just a note that the KR1 router I received has Firmware RK1011, which can also be downloaded.

I am using the router with a KPC680 along with a Novatel XCA-3 PCMCIA adapter card.

The only problem I have is that I have to run router with wireless LAN disabled otherwise it resets and reboots all the time.

I'm sure that will be fixed down the road. A few people have had the reset reboot problem. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

Does this router support the Verizon PC5750 PC Card and also what outside antenna would you recommend to optimize EVDO signal strength?

How does one flash this router with the new firmware update. There are no instructions in the downloaded file. I'm sure it must be thru the usb port. I have a 1gig usb memory stick, I wonder if it can be flashed from it or the PC.
