for this 48-channel pre-built headend system
. That's a little more than most people are willing to do. But you know what, if you're one of the super-rich... it's not such a bad idea. This particular headend system is designed for institutional use, but the idea of 48 specific channels, set up the way you want them... it's kind of cool. Imagine if you could even have 16 of those channels be DVRs always recording and buffering. It's not impossible if you have the scratch.
A headend system has some real advantages for your average Kardashian -- traditional DIRECTV distribution requires a lot of fancy tricks to make it work in a 20,000 square foot mansion, while a headend is just simple wiring with all the hard stuff in a central closet. You could even add in a channel that shows security camera footage on one channel, or a custom signage solution or movies distributed throughout the home. How about every single subchannel in your local market? The possibilities are endless if you have an endless budget.
Don't laugh, though. A headend system makes a lot of sense from every point of view except maybe cost, and for a basketball player cost isn't an issue. It's the ultimate in customization and that's worth something.
As for the rest of us, it's nice to dream...
