Off-air antenna volume issue

Looking for help with a new set-up. I recently added an off-air antenna to my system and am not getting volume. The signals are good. I have a Direct-tv Hr10-250 dvr receiver with hdmi connections and an av receiver that has various options for video and audio. Picture is very good, but none of the off-air channels are passing sound through. I've tried components, and even rca to dumb down the configuration. Sound has to run through the a/v receiver because my TV is monitor only. Anybody have similar problems or can suggest a remedy? Thanks, -V
