HI.
First, understand that you are looking at 5 satellites in the sky. Tilt, skew, and elevation are critical, and then there is a fine tune req'd called "dithering". tilt accounts for the curvature of the earth, locating all five birds.
get a pole level (lowe's has them, so does harbor freight), and ensure that the mast is PERFECTLY level, or you are wasting your time. Be sure to mount a short and long dipole (support poles) to the mast. This ensures your dish doesn't move in high winds. due to the size of this dish (just short of 3 feet by 18"), a 20 mph wind feels like 60 mph to the dish. DO NOT mount on the side of your house. Roof, by soffit edge, or pole.......
You MIGHT get lucky trying to do this manually by following the settings on your receiver for your zip code for tilt, elevation, and azimuth. here in western NC, we need a clear line of sight from 210 - 240 degrees on your compass, and about 45 degrees elevation. What I do is set up on the ground; 67 degrees tilt, 45 degrees elevation. Then when I mount the dish, I snug up the mast bolts, and slowly sweep left to right, with my birddog connected. I've found that here in western nc, if I look at GAIN (db setting obtained by hitting the on button once the bird is "found", if I see 12.2 - 12.7 on the 101 satellite, and about 14.0 on the 119.......all is well.
