Default DirectTV New Equip Policies

People should know that when you activate new equipment you automatically agree to a 24 month extension of your existing service. That applies even if you buy and install your own equipment (i.e I bought a Channel Master RainMaster dish and Direct TV receiver from Solid Signal, installed it myself). I and only found out via a post-card received about 9 weeks after activation and saw that I somehow agreed to an extension of current services.

If you want to upgrade and are not currently under a committment for previous installs, then I strongly suggest that you first kill all services (premium channels, extra receivers, etc) since those will serve as your "base" for the next 24 months. After activating your new equipment, you can then call up and re-activate the stuff you just killed.

Makes no sense to me either but rules are rules and after too much arguing with them I gave up and am only waiting for October.
