Do your DirecTV receivers HR24 support the Latin America DirecTV Satellite at 95 degrees West? When I moved to Colombia I brought my old DirecTV boxes from the USA and they didn't support this satellite. When I had DirecTV in Colombia none of the US satellites were included in the receiver.

Can I call Puerto Rico and activate one of your receivers installed here in Colombia (PR uses the same satellite as Colombia) over the phone (so I can get US networks in HD)??

With DIRECTV's Genie DVR and a late model Sony or Samsung TV, you can have an almost wire-free experience. The new Sony and Samsung TVs have RVU technology built in, meaning that you don't even need a client box to get DIRECTV service... just an ethernet connection. Now, DIRECTV offers the missing piece of the puzzle with the new RC71 Genie Remote. This is the same remote that comes packaged with the HR44 Genie DVR and C41 Genie Mini Client. Solid Signal should have these remotes for sale very soon, so bookmark this tutorial for when you get yours.

The process for programming the remote is simple:

First, press {MUTE} and {SELECT} at the same time and hold them both down for about 3 seconds. Some people have reported that it easier to press {MUTE} first and {SELECT} almost immediately after that.

You will have to wait a few seconds and then the green light on the top of the remote will blink twice. (Note: if you are not pressing {MUTE} and {SELECT} together, the remote will blink with each button pushed... you still have to wait a few seconds for that double-blink to happen again.)

On the remote, press the following:

For a Sony TV, press 5 4 0 0 1

For a Samsung TV press 5 4 0 0 0

The remote should now operate your TV properly. To reset the remote (if you want it to control a DIRECTV receiver) do the {MUTE}/{SELECT}/wait thing again and press 9 8 1.

I have a SMATV system in an apartment complex. We have a combination of local off air digital channels, set top Directv boxes with modulators and a new COM1000 system to replace 36 of the analog Directv channels. The off-air channels are combined with the other channels and sent out of the head end in a standard QAM format. All was working well until we added the new COM1000 system.

Most of our tenants are loving the new system with all digital channels, most of them full HD format. The customers TV's tune them fine with perfect picture and stereo sound. The problem is the are having a number of tenants who are able to tune the channels and get perfect pictures (no tiling, freezing or blanking out). The issue is that the new channels have no audio. WE have checked every audio setting on the TV menu, but have not found anything to correct the problem. We have found that the problem is not limited to older TV's, or to one brand. We have found the problem on Sharp, JVC, Magnavox and Emerson. We thought that it may be a signal strength issue, so we rechecked the channels and found that they were all above -5dbmv, most around +5dbmv. I move one of our off-air channels to the same block of channels to have something to compare and have found that the off-air digital QAM channel works fine on channel 36, while the DirecTV channels between 30 to 39 are having the problem.

Since we have not found anyone who has an answer for this issue, we have had the tenants change TV's. We do a side by side comparison with the tenants TV and out test set on the same channel, and cable outlet. Our TV works properly, but theirs does not tune the audio. This is not going over well, but is correcting the issue. We do not think that it would be the same problem on like 15 different TV's, all with the same problem. We can understand 1 or 2 out of the potential 600, but this is a very specific issue and traceable to the channel change.

Anyone with any ideas????

We're consistently impressed with DIRECTV's iPad app. In its latest iteration, it adds features for Commercial Users. DIRECTV is rolling out the backend support for these features including commercial account support at DIRECTV.com. Part of that is this slick little "getting started" guide... which takes you step by step and gets the app ready for your use in a bar, restaurant, or any other commercial venue.
DIRECTV's RC series remotes are powerful. So powerful that some of them can see through walls and doors, even cabinets. All it takes is a little time spent configuring them. If your DIRECTV system was installed by a professional, he probably did all the programming for you. If you installed it yourself or if you are putting in a replacement remote you may not know what all the steps are.

Image: http://forums.solidsignal.com/auximages/DIRECTV_logo_4C.png

The biggest event in the DIRECTV world is its annual Revolution show, held this year in Las Vegas. It's a confidential, dealer-only environment, so I can't talk about a lot of what was said, but I wanted to give a heads-up about the show in general and some of the things that can be made public.

First of all the show was busy. I was told over and over that it was the biggest show DIRECTV's had, and if DIRECTV's the world's biggest satellite provider and this is its biggest show, this makes it THE BIGGEST SATELLITE TV CONVENTION EVER!!! (echo: ever... ever... ever...) which is, in itself, pretty impressive. All the major players were there. Of course Mike White was on hand to give all the good news to dealers about all the cool programs and promotions out there.

There were a few other people who "just showed up" too... Peyton Manning was in the audience and as I expected, Hannah Davis aka "The DIRECTV Genie" came on stage. There was a meet-and-greet with her as well but I was too busy doing business and couldn't get over to see her. Oh well.

From the tech side, DIRECTV showed its HR44 Genie DVR and everyone is very excited about it. It's really only a little bigger than an H24 receiver and boy is it fast. There were demos of the new Voice Control app as well.

One thing you can say for sure is that DIRECTV is headed in the right direction. It looks like this will be a great year for anyone in an apartment or any other sort of "non-standard" install situation. DIRECTV looks like they will have some great programs for that.

You know what they say, "What happens in Vegas..." so it's hard to know what to put out there for our readers to see. I'll err on the side of caution and just say that DIRECTV is strong, it's exciting, and it's going to be a great 2013.

For part one of this review, click here.

It's easy to assemble and super powerful. But how will it do in actual testing? We took a look at the Antennas Direct DB8e and found it to be the perfect antenna for those stuck in between markets. Its unique pivoting elements give it the ability to see two directions at once, and its powerful 4-bay design means wherever it points, it gets the best possible signal.

It was a beautiful day in our West Coast testing facility -- 82 degrees with no wind. This is the perfect time to mount an antenna. We took the assembled antenna, our Solid Signal brand tripod and 50 feet of Solid Signal RG6 cable along with a 9 foot mast we had lying around the shop and headed up to the roof.

The goal was simply to do the impossible. Our test facility is halfway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, and the Palm Springs towers are hidden behind two 11,000 foot peaks. Could the DB8e penetrate through solid rock? We gave it a try. We aimed half of the DB8 west, and half east.

Initial results were impressive. The DB8e picked up every station from Los Angeles, every single one including VHF-High. This antenna is not designed to pick up VHF-High, so that was definitely not a typical results. It also picked up four UHF stations that were in the Palm Springs market, 25 miles away at a heading of 85 degrees. That's a first for our test site.

Still, KESQ-DT and KMIR-DT, those bastions of Coachella Valley broadcasting, eluded us. With a mile or so of rock in between us and them, it's not surprising.

The DB8e wasn't done doing tricks, though. Our only local station here at the test site is 8 miles away, almost due south, and through a hillside. Would the DB8e get the job done?
Success!

The DB8e pulled off the trick of using one antenna to get local and distant stations, and it pulled in a channel broadcasting on the other side of a hill!

We've been consistently impressed with this antenna. You may not need its split-personality tricks but if you do, you'll be glad to have it. We enthusiastically recommend this antenna for people between markets.
