Default can I use HR10-250's DVR capability but the new HR20's MPEG4 for recptio

I have an older (HR10-250) HD/DVR and am trying to determine whether I can get away with buying the new MPEG-4 receiver (HR20) and somehow send USB/component, etc. signal to the HR-250 to record necessary shows.

Bottom line is that I payed $800 a year and a half back to buy this piece only to be told I need to spend another $299 now to be able to receive the new channels. They have installed a new dish at no cost but the receiver is on me, again...

Signed,

Tired of being screwed

Default HR10-250 / HR20 output

For about 8 - 12 bucks at radio shack, you can get an RF modulator which converts audio / video signal / cables (yellow, red, white) to coax.

Default signal quality loss

do you know what type of signal quality loss might take place if I use the modulator to go from compenent to coax?

Also, I've read a lot of posts about going to the customer retention dept. Any thoughts about the effectiveness of complaining?
