Default Looking to get a pre-amp, does 300 Ohm matter?

Trying to increase my signal strength for OTA HD. I am trying to figure out why some amps take 300 Ohm and others 75 Ohm. My antenna comes off as coax, i think, so why would I want a 300 Ohm input booster? Any advantages?

Default The advantages of a 300 Ohm input pre-amp

The advantage of a 300 Ohm input amp is that you are eliminating the need for the 75 Ohm transformer (also called balun). When you take out the balun you are eliminating a connection which gives you roughly 3.5 dB of loss. In theory a pre-amp makes up for the signal loss that is caused by cable runs and other connections. With a 75 Ohm input amp, you will be amplifying a signal that’s already been reduced. The difference may not even be noticeable to some, but for those in deep fringe areas, they need every decibel of gain they can get.
