Default OTA antenna selection

Need some help. Plan to get the Direct TV Slimline HD Dish model AU9S / HR20 HD-DVR receiver and Plus HD DVR package. Local college broadcast their sports and other programing but is not carried by Direct TV or Dish Network. Sky Angel does carry their station. But I dont want to have get Sky Angel just to get this one channel. I live about 7-10 miles line of sight from their local broadcast tower. From what I understand I will be able to pick up this station with a OTA antenna. Naturally a indoor one would be prefered but an outside one is not out of the question. Bottom Line: I need for this local college channel to come in nice and clear with no issues if possible. Local Direct TV installer said he would do this for me. Any recommendations in regards to the correct antenna to get will be appreciated. I checked out the antennaweb.org site and it states for me to get the local college channel I need a large multidirectional antenna or a small directional antenna with pre-amp. I went back and checked out the antennaweb.org site and for the channel I want to pick up it states I need a [Green - UHF]. So I guess now I need to hunt down a green -uhf indoor or outdoor antenna. The station is not digital. Zip Code = 24572 Station = WTLU - CA - Channel 19 - Lynchburg, VA. Response from WTLU: To answer your original question, we are not a Must Carry for the DBS systems in the local market and still will not be when we build out the Digital Channel facility. That being the case this will not help you with that issue. However, you can try to pick us up currently on UHF Channel 50, as the Digital channel will not be on the air until 2009. Since WTLU is not a Full Power station, it will not be added to DirecTV or Dish Network even with the new digital channel, as it will not be a Full Power station either, and therefore not a must carry on these DBS systems. I would sincerely appreciate any advice you can pass along my way to select the correct antenna to receive WTLU.

I may be a little late in relying to your post, but some of the information you have given seems contradictory!

IF you're just 7-10 miles from the Station, I don't think you'd need a "Green" rated antenna. Yellow would do fine.

Regardless of how much power the Station was putting out, at that distance you ought to be able to just sick a Clothes Hanger in the back of your set, and open a window to hear it ! (just kidding of course)

Given that you're getting most of your "watchables" over a PTV, I'd just get a small UHF Indoor (inexpensive) Antenna, plug it in, to the available "F" connection on your TV, and see what you can get.

You can move your other inputs to the F-1, 2, Aux or whatever, and just select which source you want to watch.

The WTSC-CA is Analog on Ch 50, and their LD-Digital will be on Ch-43.
Hopefully you have an ATSC set, and won't need an DtA converter to get this station later. Hope this helps!

Have a good Day !
