Default Filtering OTA Signals

Due to overload from 1 station (it is 10 miles away while my other locals are all 45 miles away), I purchased the Channel Plus CPNF-469 to filter out channel 17. My question is, should it be inserted before the pre-amp or can it be after, inside the house?

The problem is there is ice & snow on the roof and I can't get up there until it is safe again to put it in. It also requires moving some coax around in the freezing attic to reconnect the antenna. I don't want to keep moving the coax unless I have to.

I believe it would be best placed right after the antenna. My theory on this is that you want to reduce the signal before your amplifier increases it. The spec sheets do not say that it is DC passive, therefore if your using a pre-amp make sure you put it between the tv and the power supply, because you could be blocking the power being sent up the cable.

Basically this filter will work either way, but I beleive you would get the most benefit by putting it after the antenna.

Thanks,

Since there is rain and snow going on here in NE I will try it indoors after the amp first. If it does not cut it, I will have to wait until there is a break in the weather and the roof is dry.
